In the room behind me stood a woman, surrounded by many men. Her head was bare and her clothes manly. All the men wore long cloaks and beard and when they talked I could see gold flashing in their mouths.

The woman rose her head and looked at me. Her face was broken. She opened her mouth. No tongue. The men were talking. I heard a barking. In unison the men turned away from the woman. I knew God was guarding us.

I reached out and touched her hand. It was real. Then the black curtain fell.
